Synopsis
Time Travelers: Quantum Magic
A Science Fiction Thriller
,
Book One of a science fiction trilogy (books and screenplays)
In Hyde Park, Chicago 2004, eccentric scientist, Dr. Danville Chandler, holds a dinner party where he demonstrates his latest invention, which is his MIM machine that sends Earth sounds into outer space across the universe. The ten diverse dinner guests thoroughly enjoy transmitting their favorite songs to far away galaxies to be heard by alien beings. But something goes wrong. Dr. Chandler is also working on another invention, a time travel machine, which becomes activated and Chandler and his dinner guests are transported through a portal to another time and place. They time travel to the past.
The ten people from the dinner party are astonished as they find themselves outside on a remote road near London, 1692. The time travelers include: Grant Shields, who is a handsome former Air Force pilot, martial arts expert and computer specialist, age 34. Grant’s best friend, Dexter Fuller, is an attractive African-American detective who is also a martial arts expert and former Air Force pilot. Three scientists are among the time travelers: Dr. Chandler, Dr. Haku who is Dr. Chandler’s Japanese assistant, a physicist; and a German mathematician, Dr. Hans Oberhof. Two women are with them: Meg Hollins is a pretty and elegant Chicago socialite who breaks hearts throughout time and space of very interesting men she meets time traveling; and Dexter’s girlfriend, Lisa Wells, is a lovely African-American history professor. Also with them are Bill Karr, a square attorney, Prescott Hampton, a greedy millionaire who tries to earn money during their time travel journeys which gets them all in trouble, and Dr. Chandler’s wild, irresponsible nephew, Neave, age 21.
After getting into all kinds of trouble in Old England, the time travelers return to 2004 but are in Atlantis, a land under the ocean that they had not known existed. There they meet Karen Schaffer, a lovely young woman, 24, whose father was a physicist and brought his family to Atlantis when she was ten. Karen’s parents are now dead and she joins with the time travelers to try and find a way to the surface of Earth. Grant and Karen fall in love. The time travelers encounter the wicked, sadistic Great Magician of Atlantis; a devious submarine captain who wants to kill them, and a tricky Native American. In Atlantis, Grant slays the giant two-headed dragon. In the book is also a powerfully awesome master time traveler from the future, year 3500, who travels to 2004.
In each place they journey through time, the time travelers must figure out how they can survive, obtain food and shelter, and, foremost, how they can find a portal that will take them back to 2004. The time travelers suffer tremendous anguish and hardships, which are complicated by their many foolish decisions. Moreover, they are often tricked by people who direct them to portals that take them not to where they want to go. In old England, the time travelers meet an evil medieval astronomer.
This novel weaves the major elements of the supernatural into an intriguing story: magic, telepathy, remote viewing on a magic table, contact with other planets and galaxies, UFOs, a secret government black project, a cave passageway from Earth’s surface down to Atlantis, giant monstrous beasts, experts on time travel, martial arts, and diverse portals.
A few time travelers find portals and get back to 2004 early in their journeys; and at first they enjoy some moments of fun during time travel. In old England, Meg attends a ball with a nobleman, but is suspected of being a French spy and flees from the ball like Cinderella. Mad scientist Dr. Chandler, a quantum physicist, loves witnessing time travel and doesn’t care when they return home. Grant is the natural leader of the time travelers, keeping them focused on getting home.
Time Travelers: Quantum Magic is Book-Screenplay One of a science fiction trilogy. In the second book-screenplay, Time Travelers: Zone One, they journey to the future, year 3500, at a place called Zone One, which is a totalitarian society where the rulers live in Satellite City, a gigantic satellite in outer space from which they oppressively rule over the masses down on Earth. In Zone One, the time travelers are devastated. In the third book-screenplay, Time Travelers: Destiny, the time travelers go to Mars and find a highly advanced society there, and are there when Earth attacks Mars in a great war.

Chapter 1
The Dinner Party
It was already dark in Chicago at six o’clock on the autumn evening in 2004. On Ontario Street, Grant Shields walked swiftly passing exclusive brownstone buildings, several skyscrapers, and many people along the busy street. Grant was a notably handsome and elegant man, thirty-three years old, with dark brown hair and appealing brown eyes. He was six feet tall, wearing a tan cashmere overcoat and brown fedora-style hat. Grant was coming from work, where he was the head of the IT department at an accounting firm. He felt wonderfully sublime, with no particular thought on his mind as he walked briskly. Grant Shields had a charmed life, a good life. He had a prestigious job, beautiful wife and his social calendar was full of banquets, lavish parties and dining at the best restaurants in Chicago.
Grant finally arrived at a large garage complex and entered the elevator. Two floors down, exiting the elevator, he passed a number of cars and reached his black BMW. Glancing at his side view mirror, Grant saw the gun.
"You… won’t be… going!" said the man behind him.
Grant did a quick turn in a marital arts, kung fu leap, kicked the revolver from the man's hand and double-kicked him in the head. With his right fist, Grant punched the killer in the stomach and the man fell. He was a big man, pale white, plain and unappealing. He was also stout and solid, two inches taller than Grant. The killer moved awkwardly to his feet and came at Grant with exacting karate chops. He was tough, but Grant was an expert in defense arts, which was his passion. Grant leaped at the man with a nearly lethal tae kyon kick in the chest. The killer turned on his heels and ran.
Grant reached down, grabbed the gun, stood and fired at him. But the man ran across the garage faster than Grant knew a man could run. The killer darted onto the garage stairs, with Grant coming after him. As Grant reached the stairs, he aimed the gun up between the stairway railings and fired again. The killer continued up the stairs. Grant chased him, running three steps at a time. The killer ran out a door.
Emerging from the door onto the street, Grant looked around, all along the street, astonished. The man was gone. Vanished! Grant stood there perplexed, wondering who the man was and why would anyone want to kill him. He had no enemies, as he always dealt fairly with people. Yet, this killer was no everyday mugger. Grant felt certain of that. The man was big, clumsy and strange looking with robotic movements. Even the words from his mouth sounded mechanical, unlike normal speech. And what he said, ‘You won’t be going.’ What does that mean? Going where?
Grant shoved the gun into his pocket. He was not going to worry about this, for worry was against his principles and philosophy of life. Nor was he going to call the police. He had a good friend who was a private eye, Dexter Fuller. Dexter was an African-American, ace detective and Grant would hire him for this case.
Grant headed down the street, no longer so high spirited. He was well aware that his life wasn’t perfect. He hated his job, didn’t like his wife and she cared less about him. Moreover, Grant was fed up with the phony elite social affairs he attended. In fact, for the past two years, his life had been pretty miserable.
Grant Shields hailed a taxi, and stepped inside.
